The historical and cultural heritage of Peter the Great occupies a special place in Russian and world history.
In the Petrine era, the Governing Senate, the state control bodies, the regular army and navy were created in Russia. Russian industry was founded, the country was divided into provinces, and a new capital – Saint Petersburg - was built. At the initiative of Peter I, the Academy of Sciences was established, the civic typeface was introduced, the first educational institutions and the first museum were opened. Peter I not only made extensive use of the achievements of European countries for Russia’s benefit, but also opened Russia to the world.
In the 21st  century, the humanitarian and educational component of the work of Peter the Great assumes special importance. The figure of Peter, a great transformer, an enlightened statesman, who has embarked on a course to transform the country into an advanced European power, today is an important symbol of the unity of Russia and Europe.
