Concept

Peter the Great is an important part not only of Russian, but also of European history and culture.

Speaking of Peter's legacy and Petrine era in general, we understand it as a set of ideas and traditions that affirm the European choice of Russia, its commitment to the basics of European Enlightenment and cultural commonality, while preserving the national identity of Russia. The figure of Peter, the great reformer, accepting the course of Russia's transformation into an enlightened European power, is an important symbol of the unity of Russia and Europe.

And this allows us to discover in Peter the Great routes not just the "Petrine" theme (which is very interesting in itself), but to form a broad picture of the history and culture of many cities in Europe, its relationship to Russian history, as well as to uncover of Russian-European cultural ties for three centuries.

The concept of "Peter the Great Way" cultural route is designed to meet the requirements of the EU for certified European cultural routes:

· The presentation of European history, heritage, cultural and historical memory;

· Promotion of pan-European values;

· Educational capacity;

· Incorporation into the orbit of the cultural route of several European states.

The relevance of the programme devoted to the Petrine era is largely due to the apparent similarity between the Petrine era and modernity in addressing the same global historical issues, such as the change of historical epoch, the modernization of the country, the relationship between Russia and Europe.
